Include a short description of your company
New Line Press embraces the digital age of books and the future of technology while understanding that reading is all about a great story. The New Line Press publishing journey began in 2003 by business woman Catherine Burr. The company originated publishing print books and soon moved into the digital arena with cutting-edge reading platforms. Our books are available at major online bookstores everywhere.
How many years have you been in business?
Hard to believe, but we’ve been in business for almost a decade! Time has gone by very quickly. The publishing industry has changed a lot in the last decade.
Why did you decide to found your company?
I always wanted to be more than an author. I had previous experience in the publishing business and also worked within the publishing industry. I saw an opportunity and seized the moment. I love being on the forefront of change and the publishing business has been very exciting to watch emerging technologies as the industry evolves.
What are some of the current releases available?
We have many exciting titles in many different genres, we also focus on series such as our very popular City Girl Series by C. J. Starr, which has current releases of Cock for Sale, and Horny Harold. We have new releases in our gay erotica series, Lust at First Sight by Penelope Rivers, Dr. Perfect, Fireman Dodge, and Lollipop Lick. We also have new releases from G. G. Royale, The Bean-Nigh, and Dorm Room Romp by A. K. Fenley.
How many books have you published?
New Line Press has published over 100 titles.
How many authors have you published?
We have published over 25 authors.
What are your submission guidelines?
Our submission guidelines are posted on our website at New Line Press.com.
What makes a submission stand out?
As well as it being a great story, one that follows the guidelines and produces a quality submission. I really can’t stress enough how important is to not only personalize the submission, but get to know the publisher, their books, their genres, their authors. Sending something cold-turkey doesn’t work for me.
What makes a submission an automatic rejection?
Poorly edited. Something that doesn’t follow our guidelines, a genre we clearly do not publish, a query with typos in it. I strongly dislike generic query letters. People should take the time to familiarize themselves with the publisher they are submitting to. A generic query receives a generic response.
Where are your books sold?
All major online bookstores such as Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, all six of the international Apple iTunes bookstores, and of course at the smaller online boutique bookstores such as All Romance eBooks, Book Strand, Rainbow ebooks, and others.
What sets you apart?
Understanding the process of how to quickly bring a product to market. Overall book quality, including story, formatting, covers, and social networking. We bring a marketing methodology to the author, and in our stories, we get to the sex quickly!
Where do you see the publishing industry in five years?
Less about the mechanics and more about the image creation of an author.
If you could get a submission from any author living or dead who would you choose?
Shakespeare, so I could reject him!
What is your favorite brand of e-reader?
Kindle, however truth by told, I do most of my reading on my smartphone.
What type of books do you publish?
Erotica with a twinge of romance. Basically we produce ebooks for grownups.
What experience did you have with electronic publishing before you started your company?
We started our company prior to the advent of electronic publishing but recognized early on and focused on electronic publishing, where we were an early entrant.
What makes an author “perfect” to work with?
Open-minded, energetic and aggressive, all three qualities not usually attributed to authors.
What makes an editor “perfect” to work with?
We must be on the same editing wavelength, something I usually find out very quickly whether we see eye to eye.
What advice would you give a new author?
An author must understand that writing a book is only the beginning.
What is the number one error in a submission you hate?
Not following submission guidelines.
